Sunfish Lake Park
10000 Stillwater Lane North,
Lake Elmo, MN 55042
Two gems in the Lake Elmo area: Sunfish Lake Park is nicely wooded, while neighboring Tapestry has meadows which host a very different group of birds.
Birding gives birders a bit more exercise now. In migration time, birders could pretty much stay in one place as the birds travel by. In contrast, during the breeding season birders need to walk to and through the preferred habitats of summer and permanent residents to find them.
By early June, most of the resident birds are well along in nesting. While some may be constructing nests, more will be feeding nestlings and fledglings. Birds usually seen in these areas include Scarlet Tanager, Wood Thrush, Savannah and Vesper Sparrows, Bobolink, and Orchard Oriole.
Registration: No registration required.
Directions: Drivers – Go to Exit 55 on I-694 (south of MN 36), go east on County 14, through 2 lights and a roundabout. A brown park sign will indicate the left turn from MN 5 onto Stillwater Lane North. Go about 100 yards to the entrance road; meet in the parking lot.
