April General Meeting
National Parks: Protecting America’s biggest and smallest national treasures

Speaker: Mark Edlund, PhD, University of Michigan in Natural Resources, Science Museum of Minnesota employee for past 16 years

Description of presentation:

Our National Parks just celebrated their 100th birthday. For most of us the Parks represent amazing places to see amazing things like Old Faithful, El Capitan, and the Grand Canyon. But for scientists, the Parks provide living laboratories where natural processes take place away from human control. The Science Museum of Minnesota conducts research in our national parks that Dr. Edlund will describe.

Examples include:

  • Discovering new species
  • Solving environmental problems
  • Understanding how our world works
