The hardwood forest at Murphy-Hanrehan Park near Prior Lake is one of the best birding areas in the TC Metro!

Focus is on songs/calls of nesting birds in a hardwood forest as well as spring migrants. Residents include Hooded, Cerulean, Mourning, and Blue-winged Warblers, Acadian Flycatcher, and Scarlet Tanager. This outing can be rigorous, with muddy trails, low hills, and biting insects.

Special Instructions

Meet at 7 am at the park. We will carpool from there to closer to the target area.

Directions

Go south from St. Paul on I-35E or I-35 W to Dakota County Road 42. Go west on Co 42 about 2 miles, and at the bottom of a hill turn left (south) onto Burnsville Parkway. Go about 2 miles on Burnsville Parkway, which turns southwest along that way, going past Hanrehan Lake and then take the next left onto County Road 75 then turn left into the parking lot.
