7:00 am - 9:00 am
Bald Eagle-Otter Lakes Regional Park (Benson Prairie)
5800 Hugo Road,
White Bear Township, MN 55110
This is the sixth of seven of SPAS’ regular Tuesday morning bird walks.
This small restored prairie, once the Benson Farm, can be a great place to view nesting grassland sparrows, sedge wrens, and other grassland birds.
We always hope for dickcissels and Henslow’s sparrows as the habitat is looks like just what they usually want. The woods that line the property may feature nesting warblers, hawks, catbirds, and orioles. There’s always the chance for a fairly rare bird at this site. Bring drinking water and bug spray for socks and slacks—ticks are a possibility.
The actual name on the parking area is the Otter Lake/Bald Eagle Lake Park parking lot. Benson Prairie is a portion of this park, just north of the parking lot where we meet.
