2019 Minnesota Ornithologists’ Union (MOU) Paper Session
Pre-registration for the 2019 Minnesota Ornithologists’ Union (MOU) Paper Session is now available! This annual event is being held on Saturday, December 7, at the North Star Ballroom of the St. Paul Student Center on the University of Minnesota campus (2017 Buford Avenue, St. Paul). Parking is available in the Gortner Ramp parking lot just east of the Student Center.
Ian Davies, eBird Project Coordinator, will give the keynote presentation on the use of eBird for citizen science initiatives and introduce us to some cool new stuff that eBird has been working on. You’ll also have the chance to meet Dr. Sushma Reddy, the new Breckenridge Chair of Ornithology at the University of Minnesota and Curator of Birds at the Bell Museum, as she presents on the value of natural history collections in the 21st century.
Pre-registration for the Paper Session ($10 donation cost) is entirely online on the MOU website: https://moumn.org/avian/paper.php
*If you do not wish to pre-register online, you can still register at the door on the morning of the event for $11. Note, however, that catered lunch is not available to those who do not pre-register.*
The registration form is the same as in previous years; all you need to do is type in your name(s) and information and check the appropriate boxes (and type in any additional donations or memberships if you are so inclined). Lunch options are available from Colossal Café. When you are happy with your choices, click the “Review Registration” button towards the bottom right and this will take you to the payment page. Click on your preferred payment option; a PayPal account is not required. You can ignore the “ship to this address” box in the payment window. When finished, click the “Continue” button.
The full program schedule is also available online and can be accessed from the registration page. Also notice the map and directions to the event links at the top of the registration page.
Thanks and see you at the Paper Session!
Bob Dunlap, MOU President
Notes re the MOU Book Sale – from Gordon Andersson
For you who are not MOU members or have not seen the latest “Minnesota Birding” issue online, here is important info for the book sale. The MOU paper session will again include a big book sale. All proceeds go to the Savaloja Grants Program. Last year there were 100’s of books available at the meeting. Liz Harper and Alex Sundvall spent many hours receiving, transporting, sorting, and selling the books. The money raised helped fund many educational, research, and conservation programs in MN. We copied and pasted this info from MN Birding:
“MOU Book Sale If you have bird books that you no longer use, please consider donating them to the MOU for the annual MOU Book Sale. The sale will be held at the Paper Session on December 7. All proceeds from the Book Sale go toward the MOU’s Savaloja Grants Program, which provides funding to bird research, conservation, and education in Minnesota. To donate, you may either bring your books directly to the Paper Session or email Alex Sundvall (firstname.lastname@example.org) to schedule a pickup prior to the event.
NB: Due to quantity, we are only accepting books about birds. We cannot accept journals or magazines.”
