Sandhill Cranes at Crex Meadows

Since historic times, Greater Sandhill Cranes have congregated by the thousands every autumn evening in the marshes and ponds now called Crex Meadows, located on the north side of Grantsburg, WI. People likewise gather to witness the sight of seemingly never-ending strands and haunting sounds as the birds seek and settle into a shelter for the night.

On Tuesday, October 19th, Louise Eidsmoe and Chase Davies of Saint Paul Audubon led a field trip to Grantsburg to view Sandhill Cranes.

Photographer Patrick McInnis was along on the trip and offered to let us display some of his work.

Enjoy!!!
