Description: The Citywide Spring Cleanup is a large-scale, annual litter cleanup held throughout the City of Saint Paul. The event is part of a year-round City of Saint Paul program called Come Clean, that works in cooperation with local District Councils and engaged community members to help keep Saint Paul clean. Each spring, approximately 1,000 community volunteers unite to remove tons of trash from Saint Paul’s parks, natural areas, recreation centers, and neighborhoods. This important event helps ensure the beauty, safety and environmental health of our City. Volunteers pick up their supplies at one of six Kickoff Celebrations across the city, then go to the park, natural area, or neighborhood of their choice to pick up trash. For more information about the new Come Clean program, click here.

Woodland Restoration Event at Como Park

Date: Saturday, June 25
Location: Como Woodland Outdoor Classroom – Como Regional Park
Volunteers needed: 50-100
Description: Help restore and transform the largest woodland in Como Regional Park! Restoration of this 17.75 acre woodland site and the historic features found within its boundaries will allow the creation of the Como Woodland Outdoor Classroom (CWOC). This classroom will provide environmental education and historical interpretation for school children and adults, habitat for native wildlife, and an urban woodland oasis for the inner-city community where local place-based, hands-on environmental learning opportunities are rare. Over time, the invasive species burdock and garlic mustard have become the dominant groundcover of the woodland, displacing the native plant species that would otherwise support wildlife. 50-100 volunteers are needed to remove invasive plants, which is the first step towards restoring this woodland back to a healthy ecosystem. Training and education, tools and gloves will be provided. More info on CWOC
