Spring Birds and Blooms
On a May Day, colorful carpets bloom in Minnesota bluffside woodlands while migrants move above!
The early bird migrants usually are far outnumbered by blankets of blooming spring ephemerals in this remnant Big Woods. (Well, at least budding if spring proceeds really slowly in 2012.) Kinglets, Red-headed Woodpeckers and other migrants; Bloodroot, Hepatica, and Trout Lilies are but a few anticipated residents. We will be joined by members of the Oak Savannah Chapter of Wild Ones.
Come practice using the macro button on your digital camera!! Bring your own 10 power loupe or borrow one from Chase. Consider carrying both your favorite flower and bird field guides.
Meet in the large parking lot by the entrance to Nerstrand Big Woods State Park. This is a fee area requiring a day pass or an annual sticker.
We usually bring bag lunches and watch Bluebirds and Red-headed Woodpeckers while we picnic at noon!
