May Monthly Meeting
What You Haven’t Heard about Lyme Disease
Presented by: Elizabeth Maloney, MD
Just 30 years ago, Lyme disease was relatively uncommon in Minnesota. Since the 1990s, the reported number of cases has steadily increased and the geographic range where Lyme disease has been found has expanded significantly. Certain activities, including bird watching, carry an increased risk for contracting this insidious infection.
Dr. Maloney’s presentation will focus on newer scientific information that is rarely discussed in presentations or articles and reviewing basic Lyme disease facts. In addition, she will discuss some of the most effective means of avoiding Lyme disease and the most effective treatments available for treating a known tick bite. It is likely we will learn that some of the things we thought were facts aren’t necessarily so.
Dr. Maloney is a family physician who has researched Lyme-related topics in great detail. She develops educational presentations and materials for healthcare professionals, government agencies, private organizations and the general public.
